The Special Adviser to the President and Chairman of the Amnesty Programme, Dr Dennis Otuaro has said that the federal government may embark on mopping of arms in the Niger region again.
Otuaro, who stated this in Warri, Delta State while interfacing with the 1st phase of the Amnesty Programme stakeholders, said this was due to the killing of soldiers in Okwuama who were on peace mission and pockets of violence in the Niger Delta Region.
He said “No region in the world is developed with frequent violence and killings without peace.
“The frequent killings are triggered by the proliferation of small arms among youths in the Niger Delta community.
“The Okuama incident is a sad case that my office will look into whether or not the federal government may embark on another journey on arms mopping in the region for peace and stability and to protect lives and property,” he said.
