A former NPFL star, Anthony Okpotu ‘the panther’ on Sunday propelled US Monastir to 2-0 victory over Esperance in the finals of the Tunisian FA Cup.
An own goal by Abdelkader Bedrane set the victory tone for the underdogs before Yassine Amri sealed victory for his side in the 80th minute.
Okpotu, a former highest goal scorer in the NPFL and his compatriot Moses Orkuma played crucial roles in the victory.
In a chat with Daily Trust, the fleet-footed striker said he was elated that he helped US Monastir to their first ever Tunisian FA Cup.
The former Lobi Stars of Makurdi hitman who scored 13 goals to emerge the top scorer in the just concluded league season attributed the success of his team to God and hard work.
“It was a sweet victory for us. We were seen as underdogs but we were not perturbed.
“Instead we were motivated to prove bookmakers wrong. We took the game to them and the rest is now history.
“I am happy to be part of the history making squad. I have more to achieve so I am not going to rest on my oars,” he assured.
