In a statement issued yesterday by the Head of Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko, the state government said the measure was part of efforts by the Okowa administration to check ghost workers’ syndrome, sanitise the payroll system and rid the state public service of truancy.

Bayoko said that those who had been receiving salaries after absconding or abandoning their duty posts would be prosecuted.

Okowa recently directed that the names of about 530 workers be deleted from the payroll who fraudulently falsified their record of service.
