A former captain of the Super Eagles, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has expressed confidence that Nigeria has the prospect to produce African Footballer of the Year in future.
He said the present Super Eagles players are young and agile.
Okocha spoke to newsmen on the sidelines of an event where he unveiled the Bajaj RE250 Superkeke assembled by Stallion Auto Keke Limited.
The footballer who is the brand ambassador for the three-wheel vehicle however said the African Footballer title currently swings towards Sadio Mane of Senegal and Mo Salah of Egypt.
Okocha also regretted not winning the African Footballer of the Year award.
He said “If you look at Mane and Salah, they are really ahead of other African players.
“I don’t have to be partial about it. I am a Nigerian but at the moment it is swinging towards Egypt and Senegal.
“But of course I have the belief that in the future we would produce an African Footballer of the year because with the crop of players we have now, they are quite young and they have not reached their peak yet.”
