Residents of Okene Local Government Area of Kogi have appealed to the federal government to reconstruct the Okene-Auchi road to ease the plight of commuters.
The worsening condition of the trunk ‘A’ road from Okene to Auchi in Edo State is a nightmare for travellers.

Speaking on the deplorable condition of the road, the chairman of Okene Local Government, AbdulRazaq Muhammed, said his council has written to Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) drawing its attention to the deplorable condition of the road.
He said it is appalling to see commuters spending the night at the checkpoint at Ohiana portion of the road due to its bad condition.
According to the chairman, it has become worrisome in the last few days because of the gridlock created that has extended to Okene township thereby blocking the major road that passes through the town.
The council chairman, therefore, appealed to FERMA to remedy the condition of the road to alleviate the hardship faced by commuters.
A resident, Ahmed Adoke, said the situation is causing socio-economic hardship to people in Okene and its environs.
“We are appealing to the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to come to our aid by fixing the road.
He also appealed to BUA Cement and Dangote Cement companies as the most beneficiaries of the road to assist.
