The Dean, Faculty of Clinical Medicine, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State, Prof. Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ojiyi, has emerged the provost of its College of Medicine.
Prof Ojiyi emerged the provost after securing 100 per cent of votes cast in an election conducted on Tuesday at the institution’s Pathology Auditorium, Amaku-Awka.
He is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University and graduate of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Enugu State, class of 1988.
He will preside over the affairs of the college in the next four years.
By his emergence, Ojiyi has broken the record by becoming the first executive officer in the history of the nascent College of Medicine, now College of Medicine and Health Sciences with the support from all lecturers of the college.
Speaking to journalists on the outcome of the election, the chairman, Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN)-COOU branch, Dr Chukwudi Okani, said Prof. Ojiyi would be the first executive provost to steer the ship of the college which now has three faculties for the next 4 years.
He said all the “36 fulltime lecturers voted for Ojiyi, who is seen as a quintessential deity and academic colossus.”
Prof. Ojiyi succeeded Professor Walter Nwafia, whose tenure expired on August 2nd.
