This was contained in a communiqué issued after an emergency joint National Executive Council (NEC), meeting of the workers signed by Mr Babatunde Ogun and Mr Peter Akpatason.

Babatunde is the President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) while Akpatason is the President of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).

“The joint NEC-in-Session, agreed that lack of competition in the downstream sector has stalled growth and jeopardised job opportunities.

“NEC-in-Session, therefore, reasoned that any policy that guarantees competition and deliveries of petroleum products to consumers will be encouraged on the grounds that the enabling environment and criteria are guaranteed,” they said.

They expressed great concern over the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU). (NAN)
