Oil and gas can no longer sustain Nigeria’s economy–Israeli Ambassador

Oil and gas can no longer sustain the Nigerian economy and the country needs to look towards agriculture, the acting Israeli ambassador to Nigeria has said. 
Ambassador Benny Omer said in Abuja yesterday that almost all oil producing countries had been looking elsewhere to boost their economy in view of the dwindling oil revenues across the world.   
“Nigeria should look towards agriculture. It has the people, the land, the rain, the sun and almost everything needed in agriculture. Oil and gas can no longer sustain the economy, more efforts should put on agriculture,” Mr Omer said at a national science and technology roundtable organised by the Independent Research-Evaluation and Advocacy Group (IREAG). 
Agricultural mechaniza-tion, he added, should be encouraged and supported by the governments at all level.
 Nigerians are lucky to have a President who is serious about fighting corruption, saying. “Corruption has killed many good initiatives here.”
He advised President Muhammad Buhari’s administration to spend more money on education, science and tech and agriculture.
   Speaking earlier, the IREAG coordinator Mr Bonny Alams said science and tech     could be used to fight corruption effectively.
