Ohanaeze charges Igbo in Oyo on peace, unity

In a signed statement by its Secretary-General, Chief Nduka I. Eya, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo maintained that it would continue to stand firmly to promote unity and peace among Igbo people in any part of the world, adding that it did not order for a fresh election to elect head, head of the Igbo community in the diaspora in any part of the country.

The Igbo apex socio-cultural organisation made the assertion in its reaction to the prolonged crisis over the headship of the Igbo community in Ibadanland and Oyo State.

Meanwhile, the Onyenisi Ndigbo of Ibadanland and Oyo State, Dr. Alex C. Anozie, has advised members of the South-East Traditional Council to respect court processes and not to allow any money bag to use them to disrupt peace among the Igbo people living in Oyo State.

Anozie who insisted that he remained the paramount head of the Oyo Igbo community, gave this advice while reacting to the plan by the Eze Clus Iluomuaya led council to come down to Oyo State and install a new leader for the Oyo Igbo community.

While maintaining that he was democratically elected and installed by majority of Igbo people in the state in 1997, Anozie urged the South-East monarchs not to forget that a case instituted in respect of the matter is still pending in a competent court of law in Ibadan.

Anozie added that since he was elected, he has been serving members of the Oyo Igbo community diligently without any complaint,   wondering why the South-East Traditional council will now decide to turn everything upside down.

His words, “Is it how it is done that after some years, a money bag will just spring up from nowhere, sponsor the monarchs to come and destabilize everything for everything to start a fresh and for him to emerge as a new leader ?

“If the traditional rulers allowed themselves to be used now to achieve this unholy ambition, it will surely happen again in future because there are more money bags still in the making.

“The traditional rulers even ignored the fact that this very matter has been in a court of law, and went ahead to do all what they did. By so doing, are they contributing to the peace of the Oyo Igbo community?”
