Ohakim berates APGA leadership, says it is biased, unfair

Former Imo Governor, Ikedi Ohakim has condemned the activities of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), especially in the conduct of primary elections.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ohakim made the condemnation while interacting with newsmen in Owerri, the Imo state capital on Friday.

The governor described as `undemocratic’ the manner in which the NWC of APGA had been running the activities of the party, especially in Imo.

Ohakim, who was accompanied by other aggrieved aspirants, also condemned the process that produced Mr Ifeanyi Araraume, whom the party’s NWC currently recognizes as its governorship flag bearer for the 2019 election in Imo.

According to him, there was no primary election whatsoever. Araraume was imposed on the party after an undemocratic process that saw him forge fictitious scores for other aspirants and concocted signatures of purported agents of the aspirants.

“For the NWC to have accepted that fake result means that it is biased and unfair and that spells doom for the party ahead of the 2019 election,” Ohakim said.

Also speaking, another aggrieved aspirant, Mr Ike Ibe, expressed displeasure over what he described as `hijacking of the people’s will’.

Ibe called on the people of the state and Nigerians at large to resist any attempt on imposition of candidates.

“We must not tolerate impunity. The NWC of our party has taken sides with impunity and it is condemnable.

“I, therefore, call on Nigerians especially the good people of Imo state to resist imposition of candidates and subversion of the people’s will,” he said.

It will be recalled that the APGA primaries in Imo slated for Oct. 5 did not hold due to absence of electoral materials.

An election which was to take place at about 11p.m on Oct. 7 was, however, boycotted by all governorship aspirants of the party except Araraume who later emerged as winner.
