The Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, has suspended its second semester examinations after suspected cultists killed a final year student of history and diplomacy, Ahmed Fabiyi.

It was learnt that the late Fabiyi was writing his final paper when the suspected cultists dragged him out of the examination hall and stabbed him several times.

The Registrar of TASUED, Dapo Oke, who confirmed the incident on Thursday, said the victim was attacked during the signing off ceremony by final year students of the Department of History Education.

He said, “He (Fabiyi) was dragged out of the ceremony and stabbed severally and not shot dead.

“The security officers rescued the victim from the hoodlums and he was taken to the school’s health facility. He died while being later taken to the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital.”

While disclosing that the ongoing second semester 2023/2024 examinations had been suspended till further notice, the registrar assured the students of their safety and advised them to remain calm, saying they would be notified about the resumption of the examinations.

He further said, “The police are combing the entire university’s host communities to fish out those behind the killing.

“We urge parents not to panic. The situation has been brought under control. The university is on top of the situation and a few arrests have been made.”

The police spokeswoman in the state, Omolola Odutola, said, “Our officers immediately moved to the scene of the incident. All possible hideouts of the suspects were combed by our detectives. Effort is being made to ensure that all perpetrators are apprehended.”
