Ogun Tricycle operator nabbed for robbing, raping passenger

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 22-year-old tricycle operator, Rasaq Taoheed, who allegedly robbed and raped a female passenger at gunpoint.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Monday at Ifo; Ifo Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Wednesday said the suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the policemen at Ifo Divisional Headquarters.

Oyeyemi said the lady who had boarded the suspect’s tricycle from Iyana Coker in Ifo, raised the alarm when the operator was heading to a different location.

The PPRO said that following the distress call, the DPO Ifo division, CSP Kehinde Kuranga led his patrol team to the scene where the suspect was arrested.

Oyeyemi said “During the interrogation, the victim explained to the police that she boarded the tricycle from Pakoto Bus-Stop going to Iyana Coker, but the suspect suddenly brought out a locally made pistol with which he threatened to shoot her if she failed to cooperate. She stated further that the suspect took her to Olose Primary School, Ifo where he raped her at gunpoint.

“After the rape, the suspect also dispossessed her of her money before putting her back on the tricycle and started heading in another direction.

“But on getting to Aritameje area, she sighted some people and she raised alarm which led to the arrest of the suspect.”

The Police Spokesman said that the suspect confessed to having committed the crime.

Oyeyemi disclosed that the tricycle and one locally made pistol were recovered from the suspect.

He quoted the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole to have ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
