Ogun State government on Tuesday said it planned to raise 1.4million seedlings through agro – forestry as part of the forest regeneration drive in the state.
The state Commissioner for Forestry, Tunji Akinosi, disclosed this in Abeokuta, while defending the ministry’s budget estimate of N1.69bn before the State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation.
He said the government would establish 1000 hectares’ plantation of an indigenous species of Gmelina and Teak at Taungya, and also do direct planting in the nine forest reserves in 2021 fiscal year.
Akinosi said the project was part of the present administration’s vision to regenerate forest activities and reclaim environmentally unstable areas in the state.
