Ogun targets 10,000 housing units in 2 years

The Ogun State Government has said it will deliver 10,000 housing units being facilitated by the Federal Government within two years in different parts of the state.

The Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Omoniyi, while speaking with newsmen in Abeokuta, disclosed that Ogun was one of the five states identified by the Federal Government to pilot the economic sustainability programme on housing to jumpstart the economy post-COVID-19.

Omoniyi said the state had been charged by the Federal Government in partnership with Family Homes Fund to deliver 10,000 housing units within the next two years.

SPONSOR AD

He explained that, “Since my responsibility is to supervise housing projects in the state, I have got responsibility over the Ogun State Housing Corporation. When we initially came we met some housing projects developed by the last administration but which were left unsold.

“There were about 100 housing units left unsold at Laderin which has two-bedroom and three-bedroom units. The first thing we did was to sensitise the market and the governor was magnanimous to reduce the prices from N5.5m to N4m for the two-bedroom and N7m to N5.5m for the three-bedroom. Those that fully paid before that time, we made sure that we refunded their money to show faith that we are truly committed to people’s welfare.”
