The Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo has asked Governor Dapo Abiodun to immediately implement the State Sports Commission and the State Sports Trust Fund Laws, passed by the Assembly in 2019.

This, according to him, would boost sports activities and youth development in the state in view of the recent #EndSARS protest in Ogun and other parts of the country.

Speaking at a stakeholders meeting in Abeokuta to address issues arising from the protest, Oluomo noted that it is high time youths are engaged in sport activities and other skills development as “an idle hand is the devil workshop.”

The Speaker particularly appealed to the governor to inaugurate members of the Sports Commission to boost sporting activities.

Oluomo said “I want to appeal that you inaugurate with immediate effect the members of Ogun State Sports Commission so that sporting activities can start immediately in the state.

“Then, the Ogun State Sports Trust Fund that you have signed into law should be energized immediately because an idle hand, they say, is the devil workshop.”

Daily Trust recalls that stakeholders in sports including Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in the state have severally expressed concern over the delay in the implementation of the laws.

They described the law as an age-long dream that would aid the development of sports in the State, noting that the establishment of a commission and trust fund for administrative and financial autonomy to manage the sector would allow the state reclaim its enviable position among its peers in sports.
