Ogun shuts markets over environmental violation

Officials of Ogun State Government Thursday sealed off the popular Kuto market in Abeokuta, the state capital over filthy and unhygienic practices in and around the marketplace.

The officials also sealed a popular supermarket and Oba Lipede market for violating environmental laws in the state.

Our correspondent observed that heaps of refuse and indiscriminate dumping of refuse pervaded the entire stretch of the market despite the functional public refuse bin.

The Special Adviser to the state governor on Environment, Ola Oresanya said the markets were shut to restore sanity to the markets.

He said, “This action has become imperative in order to avert disaster and ensure good public health despite previous warnings and meeting with the leadership of the market.”
