Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, yesterday, lamented over the growing menace of cultism in the state, saying pupils at the primary school level now joining secret cult groups.
Consequently, the governor called on parents to be more responsible towards the welfare of their children.
He equally charged them on proper upbringing of their children in a bid to put an end to the menace in the state.
Abiodun spoke during the 50th anniversary of the Sagamites Club and the official commissioning of their new ultra-modern hall at the weekend.
According to the governor, no meaningful development is possible in the atmosphere of insecurity.
He noted that the children, who now moved around contributing to the rise in cultism and insecurity, were not spirits, but belonged to parents in the state.
“These children didn’t drop from heaven. They have parents, they have fathers, they have mothers, they live somewhere and they are not spirits,” he said.
He disclosed that his administration, since it came on board, had begun to look at how best to reward the womenfolk, who he described as very dependable.
