The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun state, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, has alleged that two of his supporters were shot while others sustained injuries after his convoy was attacked by suspected political thugs at Ibese in Yewa North local government area of the state.
A statement made available to our correspondent on Wednesday by the spokesperson of the Gboyega Nasir Isiaka Campaign Organization, Bolaji Adeniji, said the governorship candidate’s convoy was allegedly waylaid by armed thugs at Ibese junction.
The statement said security men attached to the candidate challenged the suspected hoodlums who ran into the bush, and subsequently shot sporadically at the convoy with bullets hitting two people.
The campaign organization condemned what it describes as “unwarranted and orchestrated” attack and demanded for probe by security agencies in the state.
“We are shocked to note that this dastardly act is coming on the heels of a meeting just yesterday between the Police Inspector General and the political parties; on the need for everyone to maintain peace and shun violence – before, during and after the elections.
“We are therefore amazed at the turn of events where suspected agents of state will arm themselves with guns and other sophisticated weapons to attack a peaceful man going about his issue-based campaigns.
“We hereby call on the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, the State Director of DSS and other security agencies to look into the root of this matter and apprehend the perpetrators as a deterrent to other.
“More importantly, we request more security cover for our Principal, his family and supporters.”
When contacted, the spokesman of Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the matter has not been reported to the command.
