An Ogun State cyclist, Abdul-Basit Giwa, emerged winner at the 8th edition of Ijebu Cycling Competition held at Ijebu Ode.

He won the 10 kilometers road race with the time of 24:06:78, while Adebanjo Taiwo from Oyo State, and Onalaja Michael of Ogun State placed 2nd and 3rd position with the time of 24:07:35 and 24:07:87 respectively.

The cycling competition which featured 39 cyclists from Oyo, Lagos and Ogun State was organised by Alfa Cycling Concept in collaboration with Ijebu Divisional Office of Ogun State Sports Council as part of efforts to discover more talents across the South-West zone in Nigeria.

The Head of Public Relations/Information, Ogun State Sports Council (OGSSC), Bola Giwa disclosed this on Thursday in Abeokuta, the state capital.

He said the event was organised under the support and Chairmanship of Hon. (Barr.) Moses Osinubi, the Chief Executive Officer, Wesco Lotto.

The 10km cycling event commenced from Ejinrin Road through Imowo, Ijari, Igbeba Road and finally ended at the Awujale’s Palace.

Speaking on the program, the Ijebu Divisional Officer, Joseph Babajide Babajide noted that the program was purely a grassroots programme in which many cyclists came from neighbouring towns.
