Ogun Councillors Forum has reiterated their support for Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s choice governorship candidate, Adekunle Akinlade, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer in the state.
The forum, in a statement signed by its secretary, Ololade Kazeem, denied ever supporting the candidature of an oil magnate, Dapo Abiodun, who has been at loggerhead with Akinlade over the APC ticket in state.
The forum described as “fake, misleading and unfounded”, the report from a section of the media that 276 councillors held solidarity rally in support of Abiodun.
According to the forum, the report was aimed at destabilising party faithful and cause unnecessary tension in the state.
It further challenged those behind the news to publish the name and signature of the lawmakers who supported Abiodun’s candidature.
The forum blamed the report on some unnamed “desperate politicians”, adding that all councillors were at the stakeholders’ forum on 2019 budget at the time the rally reportedly took place.
“No councillors in Ogun state held a rally in support of Dapo Abiodun as we all stand with the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election that produced Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade on the 2nd October, 2018.
“Please recall that all the councillors in Ogun state held a protest on Monday 22nd October, 2018 demanding that the mandate freely given to Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade must be restored by the National Working Committee of APC.
“We are not surprised that some desperate politicians are the ones behind such a report, impersonating local government lawmakers.
“The general public is hereby urged to disregard this rumour. As local government councillors, we are pledging our unflinching support for Governor Ibikunle Amosun and the candidate we all voted for, Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade,” the statement read.
