A group of leaders and elder statesmen of the All Progressive Congress (APC) from Ogun East under the aegis of the Ijebu/Remo Forum on Thursday have thrown their weights behind the emergence of an oil magnate, Prince Dapo Abiodun as the governorship candidate of APC in Ogun State.
They submitted that Abiodun whose election had been ratified by the National Working Committee of APC, had been vindicated by the forum during its clamour for the emergence of the next governor from Ogun East.
This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman and the secretary of forum, Aare Olu Dawodu and Prince Segun Aderibigbe, a copy of which was made available to newsmen in Abeokuta.
The forum expressed concerned that the process of primary election was frault with delay and attempt hijack governorship ticket to favour Ogun West Senatorial district.
Daily Trust recalls that Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s anointed candidate, Adekunle Akinlade and Dapo Abiodun had emerged as governorship candidates of same party in the two exercises conducted by Derin Adebiyi-led state exco of APC and Mohammed Indabawa-led NWC team, but Abiodun’s candidacy as announced by the panel had been ratified by the national leadership of APC.
The Ijebu-Remo elders saluted President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo and the Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole for standing for discipline and due process in the primary.
They added that they might have disagreed with Amosun on the choice of candidate but “this does not reduce or diminish our respect for your person.”
“We are happy to present our illustrious son, Prince Adedapo Abiodun, with a plea for you to join hands to make him your next governor. He is a man of courage, a consummate politician with a heart for the people. He is a general of many political wars, a successful businessman and administrator, articulate, urbane, a brilliant citizen of the world who will take Ogun to the next level,” the forum said.
