Prince Ogbulafor will be joined by family members, well wishers and some catholic faithfuls at the Church of Assumption in Asokro district in the early hours of today to mark the event which has received little publicity.

Speaking to a group of journalists at his residence in Abuja at the weekend, the PDP chairman said at 60, he has had a fulfilled life. Dwelling back into his political career, Ogbulafor said it has been full of ups and downs, the lowest point being the time he lost the gubernatorial election in Abia State.

“I was touched because of the efforts I had put in,” he said, adding his sadness was derived more from the thinking that what was coming after his purported loss could be detrimental to the progress of the state. But he was more particularly touched when leaders of his church and the traditional council in Abia State compelled him to withdraw his case against former Governor Uzo Kalu.

Ogbulafor who started the journey in the on-going democratic dispensation in the All Peoples Party, (now All Nigeria Peoples Party), cross carpeted to the PDP and made in-roads, becoming national secretary of the party between 2001 and 2005. He was elected national chairman on March 8, 2008 when he emerged as a consensus candidate following the fierce battle between the two top contenders, former Senate President Anym Pius Anym and former governor of Ebonyi State Sam Egwu.

During the Obasanjo regime, Ogbulafor also served as Minister of Economic Matters and Special Projects.   Ogbulafor has been conferred with the national honours of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OFR). He has also been knighted by the Catholic Church.

Born on May 24, 1949, Prince Ogbulafor holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics/Political Science. He is married to Lady Florence Ifeoma and they are blessed with five children: Uchenna, Obioma, Adaeze, Eze (Jr.) and Chigozie. His interests include community service, politics, reading, playing tennis and travelling.
