I am not the one who is saying so. Oga Kpata-kpata Goodluck Jonathan was the one who revealed this strange way of calculating success. Speaking in London at the weekend, he urged the international community to ignore reports coming from a section of the me¬dia about the activities of Boko Haram in the North East. He boasted that the war on terror is being won as the sect has not captured any new town in the previous week!
Jonathan, who was speaking at the opening of the meeting of Nigeria’s Honorary International Investment Council (HIIC) led by Baroness Lynda Chalker said, “We are improving on security. For about a week now there have been no reports of Boko Haram seizing more territory. Rather we are steadily pushing them back. The im¬pression being created by sections of the media that the situation is worsening is not true. I can assure you that it will never get worse.”
Boko Haram is holding territory estimated at 20,000 square kilometers. Within this enclave are several large Nigerian towns including Bama, Gwoza, Mubi and Michika. All these towns and numerous smaller villages have been held by the insurgents for one to four months. The army has failed to dislodge them from these territories but the Commander-in-Chief does not see that as a minus. Instead he sees a very big plus, that for one week the rebels have not added any new territory to their haul. Well, a day later they did. They overran Damasak in Borno State, which is a local government headquarters. How does Oga Jonathan explain that one to international investors?

One launderer, two failed bosses

A lot of Nigerians agreed with former President Olusegun Obasanjo when he recently scored President Goodluck Jonathan’s performance in office as below average. Speaking during an encounter with book writers in Abeokuta, Ogun State as part of activities marking the Ake Festival, Obasanjo was asked his views on the Jonathan Administration. He said, “His performance is below average. I will not accept responsibility for his performance. There is nobody that gets such a position without being helped.”
In fact if there is any category that is less than below average, that is where he belongs. I have no quarrel with that. My only worry is that the wrong person is doing the assessment, i.e. it is a case of the pot calling kettle black. It is true that Jonathan has been in power for more than four years now and under his watch, preciously little has been done while the security situation has worsened to its worst level since the Civil War.
All that is true but Obasanjo, you yourself, what did you do in the eight years you were there apart from scheming how to continue ruling forever? You were just moving around the world like an unhinged swinging door; the late Gani Fawehinmi once calculated that you made 102 foreign trips during your first two years in office. So you have no case because your own rating on the job was also below average.
Then there is this man Doyin Okupe who responded on Jonathan’s behalf by saying his regime is the best in Nigeria since independence.  For where? You Okupe, are you not tired of serving failed bosses? You were the same person who worked very hard to launder Obasanjo’s soiled image that time, claiming that he was a wonder when he did not achieve anything. And now look at you, trying to launder the image of another failed boss and in the process rubbishing the old boss that you once propped. Are you not ashamed? I will not be surprised if you come back with another boss one day and turn around to say that Jonathan did not achieve anything. In fact, Jonathan should better sack you now because you are not ashamed to eat your own vomit.
