The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division of Nigerian Army, Enugu, Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Kabuk, has emphasized the need for the officers and soldiers in the Division to always conduct themselves professionally in handling security challenges within the Division’s area of responsibility.
Maj-Gen Kabuk said this when he declared open the 82 Division Operations Planning Cadre 2018 Training on Tuesday at the Division’s Headquarters in Enugu.
The GOC expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, for providing the resources for the training, and stressed that the training was also a way for the 82 Division officers and men to adapt to the COAS vision “which is to have a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in discharge of its constitutional roles.’’
Kabuk said “I wish to state that 82 Division under my watch will continue to strive to ensure peace within its Area of Responsibility. 82 Division officers and soldiers will continue to handle emerging security challenges professionally and with all sense of responsiveness consistent with the COAS vision.”
According to him, the training became necessary owing to increased participation of the Nigerian Army in existing as well as joint and multi-national operations.
He said “There is therefore the need for adherence to techniques and procedures in the conduct of military operations while not ruling out the Rule of Law. The prevailing security situation in the country coupled with some peculiar activities in the Division’s Area of Responsibility, especially the recent agitations by criminal groups have made continues training imperative.”
Kabuk explained further that the cadre training “is aimed at teaching, exercising and refreshing the participants who are officers of the Division in the art of operational planning,” adding that “The essence is to equip officers with the skills of organizing, planning and executing operations seamlessly either in conventional, asymmetrical warfare etc.”
