I don’t give a damn about the Nigerian politicians. The reason is simple: they are dirty people playing dirtier game. And virtually none of them knows God, even though they proclaim and pretend to know Him.

While some of us may have given up on them and wish that our paths don’t cross; we will not look while they display their level of depravity by throwing tantrums against the Holy God and His Son Jesus Christ all in the name of politics.

We have been in Nigeria for long to know that many of Nigerian politicians not only dine with the devil himself; they also rub shoulders with him and compete with him in evil doings. And if they do one good, hundreds of evils will follow.

Back forward to three years earlier, Obasanjo had also in 2010 said that even Jesus came down to Nigeria, he could not conduct a free and fair elections.

The latest blasphemy credited to Obasanjo in the name of politics is nothing but height of blasphemy and apostasy. And this is why we say that there is different between theology and salvation. The former has a shadow picture of God wired into the brain by books while the latter gives one access to God experientially through the instrumentality of the Holy Spirit. Hence, one can know the Bible and doesn’t know the God of the Bible.

Obasanjo has brothers: from the zealous Isaiah to the injurious Paul and to preaching John Wesley; they all claimed to know God until God had mercy on them by encountering them.

If Obasanjo at his age and with his grade in theological studies could still display his shallowness of the commonest and the elementary knowledge in faith foundation then his case deserves a measure of sympathy and not apathy.

Very instructively, I think Baba Obasanjo’s utterance is a symptom that points to a fundamental problem; the lack of common salvation. He has everything that God could give human kind but certainly not Jesus.

Ige Matthew, Ibadan.
