Bose Odusanya and Mutiu Adegoke on Friday were crowned the winners of the singles title of both the men and female categories respectively of the just concluded 54th Molade Okoya- Thomas Tennis Championship.

They both set new records as Odusanya enshrined her name in history as the first player to win the annual championship for eight times consecutively in the singles’ category.

She broke the 46 years record of Dele Olasunmbo who won the men singles title for seven times consecutively between 1969-1976, overpowering Aanu Anjuwon, 4-0 in the final to claim her 8th titles.

In the men singles, there was an upset as sensational junior Muiz Adegoke claimed his first title after he won much experienced David Faleye, 4-2 in the final.

After the final match,  Odusanya revealed that she had to rise against the odds of her health challenges to participate in the tournament, giving glory to God for the success.

“I am grateful for winning this tournament, it is not by power but by God grace because for this tournament, I have not been training  because I am not feeling fine.”  She said.

Also, elated Adegoke said that his exposure during the last National Sports Festival, NSF in Delta gave him the courage to fight to the last, saying that David was better than him.

The Chairman, Lagos State Tennis Association, Mr. Tunji Lawal said that Muiz Adegoke’s victory has proven that there is an emergence of new talents in Lagos.
