Former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chidi Odinkalu has emerged as the president-general of the Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA).
Odinkalu was elected in Abuja on Saturday with 269 votes to beat Mr. Lawrence Wilbert who got 24 votes, according to results announced by the chairman of the electoral committee, Ngozi Oyewole, from the Federal Government Girls College, Owerri.
“For the post of president-general, Lawrence Wilbert from FGC Ugbolawo scored 24 votes. Chidi Odinkalu from FGC Okigwe scored 269 votes,” Ms. Oyewole said.
Other officials of the body emerged unopposed. They are: Mohammed Wasagu, FGC Kano- Vice president-general; Salim Ibrahim, FGC Ilorin- secretary-general; Ibrahim Audu, FGC Enugu- vice secretary-general; Patricia Ofili, FGGC Gboko- treasurer; Katherine Pam, FGGC Langtang- publicity secretary; Adama Bature, FGGC Kazaure- Assistant publicity secretary; Zainab Hassan, FGC Sokoto- welfare secretary; Ogunranti Akindele, FGC Ogbomoso- financial secretary; and Omowunmi Odii, FGGC Benin- assistant financial secretary.
Mr. Odinkalu said, “We will take risks and we will be prepared to listen and learn from mistakes. But there is urgency in this moment that we must seize. The moment is ripe.”
