Civil society groups accredited by the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) to observe Wednesday’s local government elections have insisted that the process was generally peaceful, transparent, free and fair.
Among the 13 local government areas where elections were conducted, 11 were announced, two inconclusive with the ruling APC declared winner.
However, the PDP rejected the results saying there were gross irregularities, doctoring of results by returning officers and their agents were intimidated and chased away.
The state PDP Chairman, Damishi Sango, said while voters were waiting at the different collation centres, the electoral and returning officers disappeared and until the point when PLASIEC were announcing the results, some of their people were still waiting at the collation centers for the results to be collected.
He urged Governor Simon Lalong and the APC in the state not to do anything that would breach the peace.
But in a communiqué on behalf of the observers by Comrade Peter Nwokolo of Citizens Rights, they said PLASIEC did a good job and that their invaluable commitment to a transparent and credible process was commendable.
