The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in last year’s general election, Peter Obi, has called for special interventions in Quranic learning for the almajiris, especially in the northern part of the country.
He made the call on Wednesday in Abuja during a media conference where he urged wealthy Nigerians to intervene in providing water and education for the less privileged in the country.
He said that his recent donation of N10m to an almajiri school is to encourage the establishment of Quranic education in Nigeria and expressed interest to give support to more almajiri schools.
When asked if his interventions was tied to his possible 2027 presidency contest, he insisted he was doing this for genuine national interest and not for politics.
