The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, has appealed to voters not to look at his ethnicity but capacity to develop the country, saying he has the required competence, physical and mental energy to govern the country.
Addressing party supporters at a North East stakeholders’ interactive session in Abuja on Monday, Obi said, “I am not running as somebody from the East, don’t vote for me for that. I am running because I am qualified, competent and I am the most competent.
“It is a job that requires physical and mental energy. I am begging you for our sake we must vote wisely, at least the character we can trust. It should be based on competence, capacity and capability to do the work.”
Meanwhile, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has told the leadership of LP that structures were critical to winning elections in Nigeria and that they should not be deceived by those that said otherwise.

Lawal, though a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been campaigning against his party over its same-faith presidential ticket.
Addressing the North East members of LP in Abuja, Lawal said even though he was an APC member, he believed in the values of the Obidient movement.
He further said, “In the North, people are ready to hear about Peter Obi, so we need people that will take the message to them.”
