The Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, has urged Corps members posted to the state to join his administration’s fight against economic crimes, drug abuse, women and child trafficking and other social vices.
He made the call on Thursday in Okada, Edo state during the swearing-in of the 2019 batch “B stream 1 Corps members posted to the state for their primary assignment.
“As good ambassadors of this scheme I expect you to be actively involved in the fight against economic crimes, women and child trafficking, drug abuse and other vices through mass and adult literacy programme, community healthcare delivery service and other programmes put in place by my administration”, he said.
” The orientation will prepare you for the challenges ahead, so I urge you to take it seriously and be prepared to make sacrifices the national service will demand of you,” he added.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Special Duties, Mika Amanokha, urged the Corps member to contribute to the developmemt of their host communities through community development services, as government has a way of rewarding outstanding corps members.
Also speaking, the NYSC state Coordinator, Adebayo Ojo, said 1,966 Corps members posted to the state took the service oath to be good ambassador.
He explained that during the orientation, the Corps members would undergo skill acquisition and entrepreneurship training designed to prepare them for the future.
While commending governor Obaseki for always coming to the aid of the corpers, he appealed for the completion of construction work at the permanent orientation camp to address the challenges at the temporary orientation camp
