Obaseki: I have no regrets as Edo governor

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has said he has no regrets in the last seven and a half years that he has been in charge of the state.

He said his government has delivered and surpassed all electioneering promises he made to the people.

Obaseki said this at the weekend in Benin City, during an interview with journalists.

“There is no area or sector I pledged and talked about that hasn’t impacted. My government has laid a solid foundation for the State’s progress and development”

“I would be remembered as the governor who changed the course of education and led a number of reforms and programmes that have placed the State on the path of prosperity.

“As Edo State Governor in these last few years, I don’t have any regrets. In fact, when I look at my manifesto, what I said I was going to do; I’ve surpassed everything I said I will do.

“I have exceeded everything I said I will do and there was not one area I mentioned, that I talked about that I didn’t have a kind of impact on.”

He said one administration or one governor cannot do it all and that what he has done is to lay a foundation that his successor will continue to build on.

“Democracy is not a destination in itself; it is a process. It will always be better; things will always be better than when you met them.”

“Yes, I can beat my chest and say I changed the course of education in my State. I have trained more than half a million children and given them sound, solid basic education but that’s not all they need. Somebody needs to come and build on that.

On health, he said the state has a thriving healthcare insurance system that has over 250,000 policies, adding “but it needs to grow.”
