The Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, has advocated the strengthening of institutions to enhance national development.
Obaseki said this in Benin at a South-South zone mass sensitisation of members of the public on community policing with the theme, Understanding Community Policing: A Frame Work for Action.’

Represented by his deputy, Philip Shaibu, the governor noted that the challenges facing the country were as a result institutional failure, saying “We must strengthen our institutions if we want to succeed as a nation.’’
He said Edo was in support of state and community policing, dismissing the fear that it would be hijacked by governors.
On his part, Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu said his priority was to institutionalise community policing as a key framework in fighting crime in the society.
