Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday paid tributes to the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Moshood Lekan Balogun, who passed away two years after assuming the position of the 42nd Olubadan on March 11, 2022.
Obasanjo, in paying tribute to Oba Balogun, described his reign as impactful despite its brevity.
He noted that although the Olubadan’s time on the throne was short, he fulfilled his role admirably.
Obasanjo also highlighted his connection with Oba Balogun, referring to him as a friend and praising his performance as “Gbobaniyi.”
During his visit to the late Olubadan’s family, Obasanjo expressed his sense of duty to pay respects, stating, “Naturally, we would have loved him to be around us for a much longer time, but God knows best.”
In response, Alhaji Tajudeen Aremu, representing the family, appreciated Obasanjo’s gesture as a demonstration of genuine love and concern.
He emphasised that at this stage, the late Olubadan could not offer anything in return, making such visits purely out of love and respect.
Oba Hamidu Ajibade, the Ekerin Olubadan, recalled Obasanjo’s previous visit to the late Olubadan before his coronation, highlighting the enduring bond and friendship between the two.
