Details of what transpired behind the closed doors were not made public.

However, Obasanjo’s spokesman, Kehinde Akinyemi, who confirmed the meeting with our correspondent described it as a “private meeting.”

“Abubakar arrived at about 12:00pm, had a closed session with Obasanjo and came out at about 1:00pm; observed his Islamic prayers and lunch before taking his leave at about 2:00pm”, Akinyemi said.

Meanwhile, Obasanjo also warned Oyo State Governor-elect, Seyi Makinde against pocketing democracy “to achieve selfish interest” upon assuming office.

Obasanjo spoke when Makinde met with him at his residence in Abeokuta alongside some party chieftains in the South West today.

He implored Makinde to run a corruption-free and most transparent government rather than pocketing democracy for personal gain.

In his remark, the governor-elect said the visit was to appreciate and seek for wisdom from the elder statesman.

Makinde admitted that the state was “in a bad shape, and as such we are taking what Baba (Obasanjo) had told us with all vigour by going to work immediately.”
