Oba of Benin to unveil queen mother’s statue today

The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has said the palace will on Friday, February 24, unveil the statue of the Iyoba N’ Uselu (queen mother) of the kingdom,  Ikuoyemwen.

This was contained in a statement signed by the spokesman of the oba, Mr Osaigbovo Iguobaro, and made available to newsmen.

Iguobaro said that Oba Ewuare conferred the chieftaincy title of Iyoba N’ Uselu on his mother, Queen Ikuoyemwen, posthumously in November, 2021, noting that the title began during the era of Queen Idia, the mother of Oba Esigie, in the 16th Century. (NAN)
