Members of Staff and students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State today seized the premises of the Osun State High Court sitting in Ede as the court remanded the former Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Antoney Elujoba in prison.
The former VC was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and arraigned at the court on corruption charges.
Elujoba’s counsel urged the court to release his client on bail but the counsel to the EFCC opposed the bail application.
Justice Akin Oladimeji ordered that the former VC be remanded at the Ilesa prison.
The staff and students of the university who stormed the court were not happy with the decision of the court and they threw caution into the wind.
They blocked all roads leading to the court to prevent the prison officials from taking the former VC away.
They also mobbed a man identified as Dr. Odun Orioke who was said to be loyal to those that engineered the petition that led to the arrest of Elujoba. The mob vandalised Orioke’s car in the court premises.
The angry OAU staff also attacked the correspondent of Daily Trust who was trying to take photographs of the scene. They also seized the phone and other tools that our reporter was using to work.
