Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim, has said the NYSC Trust Fund when passed into law would help reduce unemployment among youth.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the training of 100 NYSC Corp members by the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) Thursday in Abuja, the DG stated that the fund would enable it to equip corps members with adequate skills to be employers of labour when they pass out.

He said, “The Trust Fund is the only solution to the issue of unemployment in the country. When it is established, it will enable us to train corps members during their orientation and post-camp.

“We want Nigerians to support this initiative to quell youth restiveness and reduce reliance on government for jobs after school,” said the NYSC head represented by the Director, General Services, Emmanuel Attah.

President of ACCI, Dr Al-Mujtaba Abubakar, said the beneficiaries were trained in digital marketing, copywriting, web designing, business communication and administration processes, data science and advanced excel training.

“The BEST Centre which is the training and capacity development arm of the Chamber has in the past few years supported youth empowerment through various vocational skills training programmes.

“Its flagship training aimed at raising skills for 1,000 youths in one year was highly successful with over 70 per cent of the first batch of 120 participants currently engaged and generating incomes with the skills learnt,” Abubakar said.
