The Director General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Sule Zakari Kazaure, on Tuesday said that the scheme is poised to creating 80 per cent of Nigeria’s entrepreneurs.
Kazaure made this known during his visit to 2018 Batch C, Stream One corps members at the Wannune NYSC permanent orientation camp in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State.
Represented by his Director of Corps Mobilisation, Mrs. Mnenna Agwu Ukonu, the DG said that management of the scheme are working to ensuring that corps members do not come out after the service to be job seekers but become great entrepreneurs who would be providing jobs.
He noted that the scheme was working in partnership with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Bank of Industry (BoI) Bank of Agriculture (BoA) and other international organisations to ensure that funds are available for the corps members to start businesses of their choice.
Kazaure therefore, charged corps members to impact positively on the communities they will be posted to as he warned them against taking advantage of young girls in the communities that they will be serving.
“Don’t fall prey if they make up advances on you,” the NYSC DG warned.
He further encouraged the corps members to take seriously the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Programme (SAED) of the scheme so that it will complement their dream job, adding that they must think to do things differently so as to move Nigeria from consuming nation to a production economy.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Benue State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Shicha Joshua Simon, said that all camp programmes, designed for the orientation of the young graduates have moved on smoothly as a result of the “superlative support given by all the camp officials.”
Simon acknowledged that the corps members have displayed a very teachable disposition and a high thinking and learning skill, adding that they are by all indices an outstanding and promising batch of corps members whose performances have impressed so far.
