Mrs Bona Fasakin, Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abia, has appealed to Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, to help tackle the erosion currently ravaging the camp.
Fasakin made the appeal during an interactive session with our reporter in Umuahia at the weekend.
She said the erosion menace during the raining season at the permanent camp had been a source of worry for some time now. “If the flood in the orientation camp is not addressed now, it may lead to serious unforeseen circumstances when orientation course for corps members is on,” she stated.
According to the state coordinator, the menace was quite big in the orientation camp, as all the roads within the orientation camp have been destroyed.
“I wish to thank the Abia State Government under the leadership of Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu for his support of the NYSC scheme in the state.
“However, sir, the issue of erosion has been a teething problem which needs urgent attention of the government to avoid serious unforeseen circumstances in the camp,” she said.
“In the first week of the orientation course, our clinic is always filled up with corps members having bruises because of the gully created by heavy flood. Whenever it rains we are in trouble, the rains are very heavy during the raining season. When the next rain comes, things will be worse again,” she said.
