NYSC renders free medical care in Benue IDPs camp

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Benue State has rendered a free medical outreach to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the camp in Abagana along Makurdi – Lafia road. 

State Coordinator of NYSC, Abe Dankaro Ashumate, said at the opening ceremony of the medical outreach that the scheme was aimed at ensuring that the IDPs have access to quality medical services.  

He said that the scheme’s Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) backed up with professionals in the medical line offered rural communities opportunities which they may not ordinarily afford.

“We ensure the rural communities who don’t have access or cannot afford quality medical service from professionals can also have them like those living in the city and privileged ones across the country. 

“We know it’s not your wish to be in IDPs camp, and that you deserve good service from Nigerian government, but NYSC being an agency in federal government has deemed it fit to come closer to you towards giving you the medical services you are not opportune to get,” he said.  

The coordinator said it was the goal of NYSC to touch as many persons in the camp with medical issue, and encouraged other IDPs in the camp to avail themselves for quality medical attention at their door step.  

Responding, the IDPs Camp Manager, Iliagh Terhile Iliagh, thanked the scheme for bringing such programme to the camp adding that it was timely because    of the various ailments presently in the camp; ranging from malaria and other infectious diseases.  

“I want to say a very big thank to NYSC and their team for a 3-day free medical treatment to the camp. Honestly, it is marvelous, and we really appreciate your wonderful intervention,” he said.
