NYSC offers free medical services to Akwa Ibom community

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Akwa Ibom State has commenced free medical services to residents of Ibesikpo community in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.

Corps Medical Volunteers, who carried out diagnosis and treatment, including minor medical procedures and referral of patients, will also give out drugs, eye glasses and other consumables to patients for free.

In the week-long programme, 1000 persons are expected to benefit from the Scheme, known as NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (NYSC-HIRD).

SPONSOR AD

The State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Chinyere Ekwe, said during the flag-off of the programme that the gesture became necessary to strengthen national unity and integration.

She said the platform will provide the NYSC the  opportunity to touch the lives of indigent members of the community.

She urged corporate organisations and philanthropists across the country to support the setting up of mobile clinics for wider outreach, as well as donate drugs and other consumables.

“The programme is largely implemented through medical outreach in communities across the country during which Corps Medical Volunteers carryout diagnosis; treatment, including minor medical procedures and referral of patients.’’

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Justina Etuk, described the outreach as apt and beneficial to the community, especially for those who could not afford to pay their medical bills, and commended NYSC for coming to her rescue.
