NYSC FC Abuja yesterday edged Sports Supply FC 4-2 on penalties to win the 2024 Ahlan Cup zonal invitational Tournament.

The tournament had commenced with 10 Nationwide League One (NLO) clubs battling for honours at the FIFA Goal project, Package B of Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja.

Both teams failed to score a goal in the regulation time despite creating goal scoring chances.

The tournament which began in Kano some years ago berthed in Abuja for the first time.

Speaking after the finals, the Cup donor who doubles as Chairman, NFF Technical Committee, Ahlan Sheriff Inuwa said the tournament was aimed at promoting grassroots football in the country.

He said the absence of school sports which used to be the breeding ground for raw talents informed his decision to introduce the zonal football tournament.

“All thanks to Almighty Allah that we are here to see the grand finale of the tournament which was organised to boost the morale of our NLO clubs. We expanded our mission to all over Nigeria to promote grassroots football in the country,” he said.

Also, the chairman, organising committee, Abdulrahman Umar Baba re-echoed the words of Inuwa when he said the tournament is aimed at grassroots football development at all levels.

“We are glad this tournament ended without a fight or rancour from any team. We are trying to play a part in developing football in Nigeria and we will continue to do so,” he said
