The Coordinator of Anambra State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr Kehinde Aremu, has said the scheme is instrumental to the success story of the state’s development, especially in the education and health sectors.
Aremu, who spoke to Daily Trust in Awka, said most corps members deployed to the state have strengthened the health and education sectors and are therefore part of the success story of the state’s development.
According to him, most people from the state are not interested in the civil service as such there is a dearth of workers, especially teaching staff.
He said the indigenes do not go into teaching but preferred to stay in offices, such that corps members had to be extensively deployed to schools to teach, while some were deployed to the health sector.
Aremu also said the success stories in the state about education, in terms of excellent results in the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), National Examination Council (NECO) and others, enjoy immense contribution from the scheme.
He commended Governor Willie Obiano for providing a conducive environment for the corps members to effectively contribute to the development of the state’s education and health sectors.
He said the governor has been supportive to the scheme.
