“We are all very proud of her. She has brought so much excitement to our camp and we are all looking forward to winning more laurels at the Games.

“What she did is not coming to anyone as a surprise because our athletes are motivated to represent the state and excel in their respective events,” said Nongu.

In a related development, the director of sports commended the governor of Benue State, Rev. Dr. Hyacinth Alia, on his unwavering commitment to sports development.

He said “The last administration did not sponsor sports well, especially the Youth Games. But this present administration has done well in the sponsorship of sports. His Excellency released a huge sum of money for last year’s edition.

“This year too, a huge sum of money has been released. We appreciate the state government for the sponsorship and urge them to do more.

“I also call on philanthropic individuals and organizations to assist the state government in the sponsorship of sports in the state,” he said.

Team Benue with a contingent of 102 athletes and 61 officials is taking part in 18 events at the Games.
