Acting President of the National Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Akoshile Muhktar, has condemned the Monday killing of the Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Samuel Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsola in Ekiti State.
Muhktar in a statement by Comrade Dotun Omoleye, National Public Relations Officer of NYCN, described the murder of the traditional rulers as callous, reprehensible and unfortunate.
“The callous murder of these royal fathers, in the hands of mindless criminals that are bent on crippling our normal life and defeating every sense of decency is most reprehensible and unfortunate.
“It is most worrisome that the victims were returning from a meeting where the safety and security of their subjects formed the talking point. That they met their untimely end in the hands of these mindless hoodlums again send jitters into the soul of our nation and threats our mutual existence,” the statement said.
While commiserating with the Ekiti State Government, Governor Biodun Oyebanji as well as the affected communities, the NYCN urged the government to leave no stone unturned until the criminals are apprehended and made to face the consequences of their action.
“Our nation cannot afford to progress in this heinous path where the lives of ordinary citizens and custodians of our cultures become cheapened by blood-thirsty touts and hoodlums.
“We join in the call to demand increased security to the citizens of this Nation and deployment of necessary assets and innovation to curb this disturbing trend through which the soul of this nation is being contended.
“It has become necessary for government at all level to reconsider state and community policing as well as creating logical roles for local communities and our traditional rulers to respond to immediate threats across the country,” the statement added.
