Nwabali trains alone after undergoing scan

Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Stanley Nwabali yesterday underwent a scan to determine the severity of a knee injury he suffered in the Round of 16 clash against Cameroon at the weekend.

The result of the scan was being awaited as at the time of press.

The Chippa United shot stopper later jogged around the pitch with a noticeable limp as the rest of the squad were put through their paces ahead of Friday’s quarterfinal against Angola.

Nigerian football fans who have fallen in love with Nwabali’s commanding performance so far are eager to have him in the goalposts against Angola.

“I am praying for him to recover in time for the match with Angola. Although he is new in the team, Nwabali has won the trust of many Nigerians.

“His presence in the match will be helpful because of the way he has performed so far. But if he is not back, the other goalkeepers should emulate him,” said coach Mansur Abdullahi.

The Falconets assistant coach also expressed confidence in the ability of the Super Eagles to edge Angola in the Round of 16 match.

Friday’s game will kick off from 6pm at the Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.
