The FCT wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Danladi Chiya, over non-payment of teachers’ promotion arrears, threatening to embark on an a strike if its demands are not met.
Addressing newsmen at the end of an emergency meeting on Saturday, FCT NUT Chairman, Comrade Stephanie Knabayi, said the authorities of Kwali council had failed to pay the 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 promotion arrears for teachers in the council.

He said the council also failed to pay teachers’ annual increment for 32 months, adding that the council also failed to implement the 2019 and 2020 promotions for primary school teachers.
He, therefore, said, “It is on this premise that the union has resolved to give the council a 21-day ultimatum from Thursday, September 2 to Wednesday, September 22, 2021, within which if the council fails to pay the promotion arrears, the union will have no other option than to embark on an indefinite industrial action in line with labour laws.’’
