The Kaduna State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB) has accused the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) of disrupting teaching and learning in primary and secondary schools across the state.
A permanent member of SUBEB, Shehu Sani Othman who addressed newsmen on Tuesday in Kaduna said that the visit by education secretaries to schools showed that the teachers willingly resumed to work but they were dispersed by the union.
He also alleged that some members of the NUT threatened to beat teachers who do not comply with the strike in some schools.
He however threatened that the situation would be dealt with in accordance with the civil service rule.
“In some LGAs particularly in the rural areas, we gathered that the NUT went as far as closing the LGA office.
SUBEB has directed its education secretaries to ensure that an attendance register be opened in all schools to monitor those who comply while action would be taken against those who err,” he said.
The NUT had on Monday began an indefinite strike action over the sack of 21,780 teachers who the state government said failed a primary four exam conducted to their competency. While the state government threatened to dismiss any teacher who participated in the strike, it stressed that the strike would not make it reinstate the teachers it laid off.
