The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has threatened to fight the managements of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) and the Nigerian Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) over anti-labour postures and violations of workers’ rights.

Speaking in Lagos, the National President of the union, Williams Akporeha, specifically accused Shell for feigning ignorance at the inhuman conditions Nigerians were being subjected to by its contractors, saying that the gross violation of workers rights reached an unfortunate head when the International Oil Company (IoC)’s contractors brazenly refused to implement an agreement they willingly entered into with the workers since November, 2018.

He noted that currently, the conditions under which the contract workers were working were conditions set in a CBA that expired since 2016.

“We have resolved to take up this fight and we are putting the public on notice,” he noted.
